Male pattern baldness is a condition that affects literally millions of men worldwide. It is most commonly visible at the crown of the head, as well as in the "widow's peak" area. Male pattern baldness is actually called androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, and is caused primarily by a genetic predisposition to produce too much of a certain androgen, or sex hormone. Dht is produced in the blood when excessive amounts of testosterone come in contact with the enzyme 5-alpha reductase and a sort of "shape-shifting" occurs. Once created, dht knows all the right places to congregate in a man's body. Both the prostate and the hair follicles are extremely vulnerable.

In the scalp, dht binds itself to your hair follicles and begins choking them off from their blood supply. The follicles grow weak, and this manifests itself as thinning and shedding. Eventually, the follicles die, you go bald, and that is quite simply the end of this tragic story.

If caught and treated early enough, however, male pattern baldness can be slowed, stopped, and sometimes even reversed, although it is very unlikely that any one single treatment will produce the latter of these results.
